1 TIMOTIUS 4:1-16

“Awasilah dirimu sendiri dan awasilah ajaranmu. Bertekunlah dalam semuanya itu, karena dengan berbuat demikian engkau akan menyelamatkan dirimu dan semua orang yang mendengar engkau” (ayat 16).  Paulus mengingatkan Timotius bahwa ia harus siap menghadapi pengajar-pengajar sesat yang berusaha menyesatkan jemaat. Mereka adalah orang-orang yang murtad lalu mengikuti roh penyesat dan ajaran setan-setan dan hatinyapun telah dikuasai oleh keinginan iblis. Dengan rupa-rupa peraturan mereka tampil seakan-akan menjadi orang yang mengekang diri dari keinginan dan hawa nafsu, tapi sesungguh nya mereka sedang melawan Allah yang telah menciptakan segala sesuatu untuk dinikmati dengan ucapan syukur dan bijaksana. Menghadapi gerak para penyesat tersebut, Timotius harus memperlengkapi diri dengan melatih dirinya beribadah, karena dalam ibadah yang benar terkandung janji untuk hidup didunia maupun untuk hidup yang akan datang. Panggilannya sebagai pelayan Kristus menuntut penyerahan diri sepenuhnya kepada Allah dalam tanda kesetiaan. Pelayanan firman harus disampaikan dengan hati-hati, demikian pula dalam mem praktekkannya. Dengan mempraktekkan lebih dahulu firman Tuhan, Timotius menjadikan dirinya sendiri sebagai teladan meskipun ia masih muda. Maka jemaat akan membuka hati menerima kebenaran dan melakukannya sehingga mereka menjadi kuat dan tidak mudah terpengaruh dengan ajaran sesat. Mempersiapkan dan memperlengkapi diri dengan selengkap senjata Allah adalah cara kita menghadapi roh penyesat dengan berbagai bentuknya, dan bukan melalui kekuatan harafiah. Memang kita masih didunia, tapi perjuangan menghadapi roh penyesat tidak dilakukan dengan senjata duniawi, melainkan dengan senjata yang diperlengkapi dengan kuasa Allah (2 Korintus 10:3-4).

1 TIMOTHY 4:1-16

“Watch yourself and watch your teaching. persevere in these things, because by so doing you will save yourself and all who hear you “(verse 16). Paul reminds Timothy that he should be ready to face the false teachers who try to mislead the church. They are the people who are apostate and heretic to follow the spirit and teachings of demons, and his heart has been ruled by the whims of the devil. With assorted rules appear as though they will be people who exercise restraint from desires and passions, but in fact they were being against God who has created everything to be enjoyed with thanksgiving and wise. Faced with the motion of the deceiver, Timothy must equip themselves with the training himself to worship, because in the true worship which contained a promise to the world and to live life to come. Calling as servants of Christ demanded the surrender completely to God in a sign of loyalty. Services must be delivered by word of caution, so too in her practicing. By practicing the first word of the Lord, Timothy made himself as an example even though he was young. Then the church will open our hearts to accept the truth and to do so they will be strong and not easily influenced by false teaching. Prepare and equip themselves with weapons as complete as God’s spirit is the way we deal with various types deceiver, and not through force literally. Indeed, we are still on earth, but the struggle against the spirit of deceivers is not done with earthly weapons, but with weapons that are equipped with the power of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-4).
